I've been playing drums for over 25 years now. It's brought me all over the country playing for crowds both big and small, with bands big and small, and has allowed me the opportunity to learn and play more instruments than I can keep track of.

We’ll spend our first lesson learning about all the little things that make a great drummer. Once we the why and how we get right to the doing. We dig in hard on rhythm and time making your role as a time keeper the backbone of your playing. From there we'll focus on the specifics of your percussive path to make you into the kind of player you want to be.

  • Drumset

    • Give yourself the flexibility you need so your only limit is your imagination. Work on exercises to expand you’re vocabulary while working on songs you choose.

  • Snare Drum

    • Get a leg up in your school band and land the parts you really want. We'll play to your strengths while we fortify your weaknesses focusing on rudiments, dynamics, and timing to make sure you won’t be stumped by a sheet of music ever again.

  • Marching Percussion

    • Whether you prefer snare, quads, or bass we'll make sure you crush your audition or polish your show to give you that competitive edge. My experience playing with the Blue Stars and teaching marching arts programs around the Twin Cities will assure you’re navigating and succeeding in this niche.

  • Auditions

    • Whether it be college prep or that part you've had your eye on, get ready for that big audition! Whether in person or making a recording I’ll make sure you’re putting you’re best foot forward. Together we’ll choose the right music to prepare and make sure you’re ready to shake off any performance anxiety the day of.

  • Everything else

    • Percussion is a vast, expansive universe and I'd be a fool to list everything I teach here. Whatever your weapon of choice, we'll get you on the fast track to making your music.

  • Percussion repair, restoration, and tuning.

    • If you're near the Twin Cities and have a drum that doesn't drum quite right, or at all anymore, I can help!

    • I also do full tune-ups and overhauls for area schools so you can have all of your equipment sounding the way it should.

Javier

“Joe has been my son, Javier’s, teacher for over 5 years. At the beginning he made drumming fun and exciting to a 12 year old. All these years later my son is still enjoying lessons and is eager to meet up each week via Skype. It has been a wonderful experience working with Joe. I could not have found a better teacher and better role model for my son.”
